This game was submitted as the final project for a course I took at the start of 2025, Gameplay Programming 2.
Similar to the final project for Gameplay Programming 1, the objective for this assignment was to create a 2.5D Game (Rendered in 3D but 2D Gameplay) based on an arcade game of my choosing. I ended up choosing the original Mario Bros. arcade game since the previous assignment was based on Super Mario 64.
Continuing with the trend from my Gameplay Programming 1 assignments, I ended up going a bit overboard with the visual design for the game, as untextured objects were supposedly okay but I felt like for the final assignment it would be nice to put together a game with a level of polish that I felt happy with. As you can see the coins, although similar to the previous Unity game have been completely remade as at this point I had a lot more experience with textures and materials and was able to make them look pretty good! And of course the player icon makes a return from the previous project too.
Although not featured in the video since I was struggling with audio problems at the time of recording, I actually produced a short song that played on repeat during the main gameplay loop, inspired by the melody of the Ultra Street Fighter IV Theme by Hideyuki Fukusawa.
